You’re a Photoshop user and have tried and disliked Adobe’s new Neural Filters. Then I would recommend at least giving Luminar Neo a go, then you can decide which is best for you and your workflow.

You get a major upgrade and what has been promised as a faster, more robust image editor (reviews to be determined). Again, it’s a no-brainer for you for $34.
You are using another version of Luminar as a plugin currently. Layers are back which is what you may have been missing from Luminar 4, AND you’d get access to all the latest AI updates like Portrait Bokeh AI too. With the early-bird price of upgrading at $34 it’s almost a no-brainer. You already own Luminar 3 or Luminar 4 and you have not switched to Luminar AI. Luminar Neo is like Luminar Pro or Advanced (think Photoshop CC).
Luminar AI is like Luminar Lite (think Photoshop Elements). In short, if you want to think of it like this (my terms not Skylum's): It uses a layer-based (yes layers!) and the ability to do more complex editing like making composite images and layer blending and masking. Luminar Neo is a creative image editor (key word there is image not photo) for photographers and creative artists. It’s designed to help you get great results with your images quickly using AI and templates. Luminar AI is an easy to use photo editor with artificial intelligence. How is it different from Luminar 4 and Luminar AI? It can be used as a stand-alone or plugin for Photoshop, Lightroom, Apple Photos, and (coming soon) Microsoft Photos! It will be compatible with Mac M1 processors and Windows 11. Many people were upset with the loss of layers with Luminar AI - so I think perhaps Skylum was listening and they have delivered. Luminar Neo is a NEW separate product, it is not an update or upgrade for Luminar AI or Luminar 4. You may be confused, or frustrated (trust me, I was too when I heard about it), but I think this will be a good thing at the end of the day. This time they are adding to the Luminar family to expand the options so you can choose the one that is right for you. The big question on everyone’s lips is, “Why are they introducing yet another version of Luminar? If I would buy it and use it, I’ll tell you that too. If I think something is bad or isn’t for you, I will say so. Yes, I am a Skylum ambassador, but you can always count on me to give you honest, straight-up answers.
